A Quiet Promise

In Leslie Gulch, slender rock spires rise above slopes of muted green, their weathered faces catching the warmth of low sunlight. Sagebrush fills the canyon floor, its silver leaves fading into shadow beneath the taller formations. Overhead, grey clouds open into a wash of rose, and a faint rainbow reaches toward the ridge.
The light finds its way across the stone unevenly. One tower glows amber while the narrow cleft beside it holds the cool of the clouds. Farther along the canyon, small ledges catch the same warmth, drawing the eye from one formation to the next. The rainbow is easy to miss at first, a delicate band of color beside the rugged skyline. Its quiet presence gives the whole scene a sense of possibility.
